Tropical montane cloud forest (TMCF) is one of the most representative ecosystems in Taiwan, which is frequently immersed by a high incidence of low-level cloud at the canopy and ground level. Because cloud forests usually develop on the saddles of mountains, where moisture introduced by settling clouds is effectively retained, it becomes an important water source for its downstream ecosystems and a habitat for various floras and faunas. In this class, I will introduce different aspects of the system (biogeochemistry, climate, ecology, management etc.). After completing this class, students are expected to have in depth knowledge of TMCF and appreciate more about this Taiwan’s vulnerable and invaluable nature treasure.
